Overview[]
The Soul Eater is a powerful sword of black magic. It damages not only the wielder's body, but also its soul, in order to sustain itself, leading to its name. The sword can deflect 80% of the power of enemy spells.[1]
History[]
A hundred years before the start of the series the Soul Eater was owned by Gain Esparanza, a swordsman serving as one of Dark Schneider's Divine Kings at the time.[2]
It eventually found is way into the hands of the Samurai, who had the priestess Marie guard the sword. Marie is murdered by Zion Sol Vanderverg, the brother of her husband, Schen Karr, after he was seduced by black magic[3]. Zion wields the sword during his time serving Kall-Su in the Sorcerer Shoguns.
Eventually the Soul Eater is destroyed. While on the flying city of King Crimson Glory, Zion stays behind to fight a giant monster, created from Prince Mercy, so the Samurai can escape. As the battle turns against them, with Zion nearly dead, fellow Shogun Ran Di tosses a dagger at the Soul Eater, cracking it, and causing the energy within it to burst out. The resulting explosion kills the monster, Zion, and Ran Di.[4]
