Basilisks are a type of giant lizard monster.

Basilisks are a kind of giant lizard, said to be hatched from either the egg of a rooster that mated with a Cockatrice, or from the egg of a crocodile that had been buried underground for hundreds of years. They possess the ability to turn anyone who looks at them, or touches their body, into stone. They also share a male and female relationship with the cockatrice, with the Basilisks being the males, and cockatrices being the females.[1]
